Christ the King

I know it’s not Good Friday, but my favorite last words from the cross are spoken in this Sunday’s gospel from Luke. “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom”. Now some of you churchy folks might have an issue with that. We usually think of the “Last Words from the Cross” as Jesus’ last words. There are so many Lent and Good Friday service based upon those words. But, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom” is also a last word from the cross. It is a word of faith, a word of defiance, a subversive word. From the cross the man isn’t begging the powers of violence for relief. He has turned away from that to the real power, to the real king.
