22By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, 23gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things. 24And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.     Galatians 5:22-24

Is there truly no law against love, joy, peace, patience, etc. and so forth.  As our country becomes more and more divided, as our culture becomes more and more hardened and mean spirited, as we turn to violence to fix our problems, those words rattle around my brain and spirit.  These words of Paul and so many many others throughout Scripture should really cause those who would assert that the US is a Christian nation to think twice.  At least from my perspective, it appears that on so many levels and in so many arenas we are moving further and further away from the reign of God that Jesus proclaimed in word and deed.  If we as a country and a culture are going to live by the law, by the sword, by hatred, by protectionism at least be honest and give up our pretense of being Christian.  The Bible I read, the Word of God that confronts me calls me/us to more than lip service on a Sunday morning.
